Tertiary Education For Care Leavers

TE4CL - Kia Eke (Tertiary Education for Care Leavers - Kia Eke) is a care leaver founded advocacy organisation aimed at improving equitable access to tertiary and further education for people who have been in care. We’re working towards a future where, with the right support, our care experienced whānau can flourish in whatever future they choose to pursue.

What we do

Our kaupapa speaks to a number of groups; care experienced whānau (all ages and life stages) and the services that support them, as well as tertiary education providers and decision makers.

Our mahi sits under these three pou:

Thriving in tertiary education

For care experienced whānau: We help universities and wānanga to take real action, like making support and funding resources more accessible, so you can reach your educational goals and dreams.

For tertiary education providers and decision-makers: We support tertiary educationinstitutes & other key stakeholders to implement tangible policies and practices to support care leavers to access and excel in tertiary education.

Setting sustainable foundations for success

For care experienced whānau: We understand that free and easy to use support is essential to help you decide your career path after high school, and throughout your tertiary study.

For tertiary education providers and decision-makers: We seek care leavers to be recognised as a protected group throughout their educational journey, and support high school practitioners to support care leavers into tertiary pathways.

For care experienced whānau: We hear you and see you, and we’re here to walk alongside you as you take on tertiary study by offering guidance, mentoring and scholarship opportunities.

For tertiary education providers and decision-makers: We recognise, celebrate and support care leavers accessing tertiary education & provide practical support and guidance ranging from mentorship to scholarships.

Building community recognition

“Having more tertiary support for care-experienced people would mean investing in their future, holding hope for them until they are ready to hold it for themselves”
